Five dollar wines are primarily hit-or-miss wines, as I have found out in my experiences, but I am always game to try one and find a hidden gem. Such is the case with this white wine from Portugal's Vinho Verde region.

This isn't the first wine from this region that I have had, and I am not entirely sure of which grapes were used in it's manufacture, but this is a wonderful offering.

Almost totally clear in color, this wine is not too strong in alcohol content, but very demure in flavor, with a delicate, fruity taste. This is primarily an apertif wine, but it can also be well suited to light dishes. I actually see it as something nice to drink out on the town, when you don't want to go dry, but you don't want to drink water [of Coor's light] either. The fruity flavor in itself still has just a little bit of citrus in it, and I would say the slightest hint of berry.

I highly recommend this wine, and for the price, it's worth buying case to enjoy by yourself, or to share with friends over the summer, and into the fall.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
